Edit: I reworked it to give the little Kitsu way more credit she deserves. Added more shadows, details, erased some errors and other stuff.
Phew, I did it. It took me a while, but since I have no Kitsumera on my own I was happy to draw this little one for the contest
A little backstory, that I imagine about her:Once upon a time in recent days someone was driven by a dream. Him or her, you ask? Only fate nows. Does it matter? That one dreamt about a Kitsu, but why, the ones asked? Nobody answered, just a flicker in the mind and a whispering: Do me a favour. Build me a dreamcatcher, human, and I'll heed your calling. Wondering about it, the one crafted a dreamcatcher, never done before. A frame of sandalwood, tied together. Holding a curved stone in its middle. Decorated with little, shimering blue beats. Four ravens feathers like tails tied to it.
After finishing the one didn't know what to do. A strange dream the only purpose.
So the catcher of dreams was tied to a foxes tail. It'll bring luck, doesn't it? At the statue of Mother Fox at a small shrine in the grove. Nothing more but the statue, the dim lights of floating fireflies and the overgrowing wilderness. May Inari decide what this fine craft maybe doing. Still without a clue, the one addressed the fair kami:
'Oh may you hear me, fine god of rice and foxes. A dream called me, but the purpose is unclear. Thrice thy name may praised, thrice I bow before you. Take my offering, great Inari, for a Kitsu may be born.'
And the one left, leaving the dreamcatcher behind.
But in the middle of the night, were moon shined at its fullest, flash of light emerged from the craft! And forth came what was called: A Kitsu was born. Mother Fox blesses her kind!
With silent flapping wings like a moths, but with the shining beauty of lit stars. A glowing necklace to compete with the fireflies. And a gaze of irritation and full of questions. Hail to thee, great Inari! Today a fox is born! ... But it has no home. She feared the dark and the first thing she saw was the full moon. Dancing little sparks around her, a smell of sandalwood and lavender. She was alone. Where's the one who called her? Where is the one to greet with joy? Just the cold night around...and the statue beneath. So she sits besides small Mother Fox, to wait for her friend. Who may fetch her? Who may take this Lavender Dream out of the cold?
I imagine her as joyful and dreamy, easily happy, but also easily scared. She likes everything shiny and filigrane beautiful, but has a big distrust for modern technology. It scares her a lot, that flat boxes talk, roaring big boxes full of water rumble and long tubes may flash out light in an instant. Her way of dealing with it is to cast magic. Yes, she can shut down technic devices, especially when heavily starlted. She also may summon dancing lights around her, a mixture between will'o'whisps and little stars.
